What is Tai Sui?

Tai Sui, originally a star deity in Taoism, is also known as the Year God, Year Lord, Tai Sui Star Lord, or Grand General. It's the most powerful annual deity, controlling the fortunes and misfortunes of the human world for a year. Overseeing all other gods, Tai Sui is regarded as the celestial emperor of the year. (Tai Sui is called a Star Lord because it's associated with Jupiter in the sky.)

Ancient texts state: "Tai Sui is like a ruler, the chief among all gods and the lord of all evil spirits. Like an emperor ruling over the world, Tai Sui must not be offended."

There are sixty Tai Sui gods, each with their own name. They take turns ruling each year in a continuous cycle, starting from the Golden Red General in the Jia Zi year to the Yu Cheng General in the Gui Hai year.

What does it mean to "offend Tai Sui"?

The ruling Tai Sui of the year is called the Annual Tai Sui. When your zodiac sign conflicts with the zodiac sign of the ruling Tai Sui through value, punishment, clash, break, or harm relationships, you're considered to be "offending Tai Sui."

"Offending Tai Sui" is a general term encompassing five specific ways of offending the Tai Sui god: Valuing Tai Sui, Punishing Tai Sui, Clashing with Tai Sui, Breaking Tai Sui, and Harming Tai Sui.

Value: When a person's zodiac sign is the same as the Annual Tai Sui.

Punishment (or "Partial Clash"): When your birth year is three years apart from the current year's zodiac sign.

Clash: Refers to the six clashes - Rat vs. Horse, Ox vs. Goat, Tiger vs. Monkey, Rabbit vs. Rooster, Dragon vs. Dog, Snake vs. Pig.

Break: Refers to destruction, such as Rat breaking Rooster, Rooster breaking Horse, etc.

Harm: Refers to piercing harm, such as Rat harming Goat, Ox harming Horse, etc.
