Upon hearing Guangmu's tale, the monk nodded slightly and spoke slowly, "Your mother committed many evil deeds in her lifetime and is destined to suffer in the lower realms after death. However, you have a filial heart. As long as you practice sincerely and accumulate merit, you may be able to help your mother escape from suffering."
The monk informed Guangmu that all those who commit evil deeds in life will be sent to a place of punishment after death. Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva, however, is a great compassionate being in the underworld. He has made a great vow to save all sentient beings suffering in hell.
